‘The smallest act of kindness can create the biggest difference.’
The students of Silver Crest School had the privilege of visiting ‘Aaple Ghar’ at Donje, an institution that provides a loving and supportive home to around 35–40 orphaned children, from the age of three until they become independent. The institution also extends care and support to senior citizens. Under the guidance and dedicated efforts of Shri Vijay and Smt. Sadhana Phalnikar, ‘Aaple Ghar’ ensures that every child receives nutritious food, a safe home, education, healthcare and all the support required to become self-reliant. The institution is equipped with a modern hospital, ambulance facilities and transportation for the children to attend school and college. As part of our ‘Ek Mooth Dhaanya’ (A Handful of Grain) initiative, our students donated the grain collected through their collective efforts. But they brought something even more precious, their love and affection. The students also lovingly tied Rakhis that they had made themselves on the wrists of the children at Aaple Ghar and shared snacks with them. The warmth with which the children welcomed our students and accepted their gestures of love was truly heartwarming. What impressed our students was the clean, well-maintained and disciplined environment of the institution. The thoughtfully arranged spaces for sleeping, studying and recreation, along with the children’s neat uniforms and well-groomed appearance, reflected the care and dignity with which they are nurtured. The children at Aaple Ghar interacted with our students with remarkable confidence, politeness and warmth, answering their questions with maturity and enthusiasm. They happily showed our students around the entire campus, making the visit an enriching experience for everyone. For our students, this was much more than a visit or a donation drive. It was a lesson in compassion, gratitude, sharing and the joy of giving, a lesson that no classroom could teach quite as beautifully. The smiles shared, the Rakhis exchanged and the bonds formed made the day truly memorable. Because sometimes, a handful of grain can fill a plate, but a handful of love can fill a heart.
